We’d like to take a moment to wish you all a fantastic New Year and hope the months ahead are a busy, prosperous time for you all. 2025 was a fantastic year for golf in multiple ways and we’ve no doubt 2026 will treat us the same way.

Today we want to run some of the best shots of 2025 and mull over some of the big questions that’ll get answered this year as we embrace the 2026 tour season.

A Scotty Scheffler Grand Slam?

The World No.1 golfer has never been far from the spotlight in recent years and has had an incredibly successful 2025. When Rory McIlroy won the Masters in April, the golfing world lit up with fans elated the Northern Irishman had finally achieved his career Grand Slam.

Scheffler answered immediately by taking the trophy at the PGA Championship, dominating Quail Hollow with a 5-stroke lead. He would similarly wipe out the field at The Open, winning the Royal-Portrush-held major championship by 4 clear strokes. Having won The Masters twice in 2022 and 2024, the U.S. Open remains the only major trophy missing from his cabinet. Could Scheffler secure a grand slam of his own this year at Shinnecock Hills?

The Ryder Cup Captaincy going forward

The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black was one of the most controversial competitions in the history of the tournament, not least of all due to the incredibly hostile heckling the New York crowd gave the European players all weekend. But it was nothing Luke Donald hadn’t prepared for, and his Team achieved a consecutive Ryder Cup win, beating Team USA 15 – 13.

The 2027 event is set to take place at the idyllic Adare Manor in Ireland. Keegan Bradley will be stepping back from the role of Captain and there are multiple names floating about as to who his successor will be. Perhaps Steve Stricker or Webb Simpson will enter the role?

Colin Montgomerie has backed Luke Donald to Captain the European Team for a 3rd time, but Donald claims he’s “Proved enough” and is in no rush to name the man for the job. No doubt all will be revealed over the coming months.

Tiger Woods turns 50

The biggest name the sport has ever produced has reached the personal milestone of turning 50 years of age, and that means he’s eligible to play in the PGA’s Senior Championship Tour. Could Tiger return to competitive golf over the years to come?

Tiger Woods last played golf professionally at the 2024 Open when he missed the cut at Royal Troon, and he’s not played four rounds in an official tournament since he finished 60th at The Masters of that year. The passing of his mother caused him to withdraw from the 2025 Genesis Invitational, but despite recovering from illness and encountering grief, fans are ever eager to speculate if and when Tiger might return to professional golf.

The PGA – LIV situation

The merging of the PGA and LIV golf circuits was first announced in June 2023 but there’s still no final deal in sight. The subject has been a contentious subject for years with notable players such as Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau aligning with the former and latter camps.

Rory McIlroy has said he’d now “would be okay” with welcoming back to the PGA Tour golfers who had chosen to play on the LIV circuit “They’ve made the money but they’ve paid their consequences in terms of their reputation and some of the things they have lost by going over there.”

DeChambeau has previously said he has the utmost respect for Rory, but he believes that rivalries are good for golf as a whole. With some of years-old animosity seemingly waning, could a merger be on the horizon?

We have a lot going on locally this year too and there will be plenty of exciting things happening as the year progresses. If you’re wanting to start the year strong and set yourself up for the season ahead we’re available to help here in the pro shop.
